NBA Suspensions

I don't agree w/ the whole arbitrator - league fiasco that's going on with the NBA. I think a company (the NBA), should be able to set it's own rules and that a 3rd party shouldn't be able to step in and rule completely opposite.

While I do like Artest, I am glad that the arbitrator ruled that his suspension would not change. He started it (well, kind of), and he continued punching people until he was in the locker room. Basically, he got about 15 games for each punch he threw. The other players involved got about the same, except for Stephen Jackson - he should've been suspended the rest of the year too.

After Indiana's great start following the suspensions, the Pacers have fallen hard; even after getting Reggie Miller back in the lineup (& David Harrison).

I think the NBA is still going to fight the O'Neal ruling and will not allow him to play this weekend. I'm also glad the league hasn't been promoting the fight re-match on Saturday - the type of behavior both teams displayed in November shouldn't be publicized.

My 2 Cents.

All about nothing

It's been a pretty uneventful week since my last post, although I did get my '79 Yamaha 250CRT (motorcycle) running on Saturday.

Have I mentioned that Xmas shopping sucks? Well it does; unless you have lots of money! I spent a few hours looking for gifts last night and only ended up buying things for 2 people. That means I have about 5 people left to shop for by Friday.

Do I know what I'm getting for Xmas from everyone? You bet...
-Gift Certificates
-Playstation 2
-Clothes
-Motorcross gear

Have I told anyone else what they're getting? Uhh, no.

On another note... still waiting for my blog to get picked up by Google and/or the other search engines. I've submitted to a few blog directories, but it doesn't seem to be helping yet.

NASCAR Weekend w/ Tony Stewart

This is a photo of me next to my favorite NASCAR driver's car, Tony Stewart. My whole family went to all 3 races the weekend of the Checker 500 at PIR in Phoenix, AZ - November 2004.

My Mom had a great point... she figured out why they don't call it Phoenix International Speedway (like most other tracks); instead of the initials PIR (for Phoenix International Raceway), it would've been PIS.

Week 14 NFL Picks

How I finished... 12-4

I like to participate in NFL pools at work & in my neighborhood each week, so I figured I might as well put them up here and track my progress (or lack thereof).

NFL Week 14 Games

  • Game 1: Chicago @ Jacksonville - Chicago sucks, so I go w/ Jax at home.
  • Game 2: NY Giants @ Baltimore - Baltimore defense will take Manning to the ground.
  • Game 3: Indy @ Houston - Are you kidding...Manning will reach or surpass 48 TDs this week, tying or passing Dan Marino in the record books for single season TD passes.
  • Game 4: Cleveland @ Buffalo - This is a tough one, but I like Buffalo at home.
  • Game 5: New Orleans @ Dallas - Another tough one; you never know which team is going to show up. New Orleans takes it.
  • Game 6: Oakland @ Atlanta - Vick is amazing and ATL is headed to the playoffs; plus, I hate the Raiders, so Atlanta all the way.
  • Game 7: Seattle @ Minnesota - Another one where you don't know who's going to show up... After Dallas' comeback on Monday Night Football, I have to give the Vikings the advantage here.
  • Game 8: Cincinnati @ New England - Reigning Super Bowl Champs; need I say more?
  • Game 9: NY Jets @ Pittsburgh - I think the Jets give Roethlisberger a hard time, but the Steelers defense is too good for Pennington & Martin to win this one.
  • Game 10: Miami @ Denver - This should be a really easy pick, but I feel like Plummer & the Broncos might blow it... Broncos win.
  • Game 11: Detroit @ Green Bay - Ever seen Halloween? After the embarrassment against the Eagles, Favre and the Packers are going to chase Detroit up & down the field non-stop (ie: Michael Myers), until they're DEAD!
  • Game 12: Tampa Bay @ San Diego - Bucs are on a roll, but Chargers are playing pretty good too...Chargers in a squeaker.
  • Game 13: St. Louis @ Carolina - St. Louis rebounds from a few bad games.
  • Game 14: San Francisco @ Arizona - I have to pick the local team; Cards.
  • Game 15: Philadelphia @ Washington - Philly, no question.
  • MNF: Kansas City @ Tennessee - Tennessee, but only because Priest Holmes is out.

I went 8-8 last week, but if you read my post on Monday, you know that the games were crap. Anyone with a brain lost at least 6 games. Here's to a better week...

What gives?

Random thoughts...

What makes a person do what they do?
  • Do most people take actions out of necessity?
  • Or do they take actions because they can?
Leaving work...
We've recently had a lot of turnover where I work, but there hasn't been a commonality to why people are leaving; some fired, some quit, some left for more money, etc. Can't anyone stay put for more than 2-3 months? I'm wondering how common this type of thing is... my girlfriend wouldn't hold a job for more than that long for years (she always had 'a' job, just not very long) and now one of my neighbors seems to be doing the same thing - and it seems like they're always saying they were better off where they were; so why did they leave in the first place?

Bad drivers...
I hate drivers who can't seem to stay in an empty lane because they're so damn important they need to be in the fast lane even if they are going slower than the speed limit. There's no on in the slow lane, but these idiots seem to think they need to be in the fast lane to avoid traffic or something...what gives?

Also, I was on my home last week and this idiot was:
  1. Passing vehicles on the shoulder.
  2. Driving from the freeway onto the entrance ramp to get further up to merge back onto the freeway.
  3. Riding people's asses.
  4. Swerving in & out of lanes (and onto the shoulder)
  5. Can you guess what kind of egotistical vehicle this jerk was driving? How about a Cadillac Escalade... I guess he's better than all the other cars on the road.

I wish there was a magic button that you could push to flatten someone's tire and put them into the wall (like NASCAR). They don't need to get hurt, but they should have their car screwed up enough & have the shit scared out of them to where they don't drive like ***holes again.

Oddball Christmas Gifts

Got bored tonight, so I thought I'd start surfing for some X-mas gifts. Most of the people I know have everything they want already, so I'm looking for unique Christmas gifts. Here are some of the better sites that I found:

I give up for now... Try some of these out though if you're still looking for a gift.

Combines two of my favorites...Southpark & Tony Stewart.

Phoenix Suns Kick A**

The only local Phoenix team doing squat... the Phoenix Suns are on fire right now. Steve Nash is operating the best offense in the league and the starting five are playing unbelievable.

Tonight's game against the Warrior(not)s sums it up perfectly... Suns are down by 10 pts midway through the 3rd Quarter and wouldn't you know it, they Warriors legs start running out on them. Phoenix goes on a tear and ends up winning the game by over 10 pts.

  • Amare Stoudamire is a man-child... unbelievable athletic ability.
  • Shawn Marion is "Tigger" from Winnie and the Pooh, just bouncing off those damn legs like a spring - 20 pts & 10 rb a night doesn't lie.
  • It seems like everyone Steve Nash passes to scores; he's leading the league in assists by almost 2/game more than the next highest guy.
  • Joe Johnson is lighting it up from 3-land like it's nobody's business. Over 50% 3-pt FG% through the first month.
  • Q Richardson was awesome the other night w/ 8 3's. He's starting a little slow, but w/ all others operating at full steam, he doesn't need to do everything for the team.

Go SUNS.

What a Weekend...

Where do I start... Friday night I went over to my buds' after work and we ended up drinking and playing Playstation2 all night. It was fun, but he fell asleep so I jetted.

Saturday was cool, except it's not suppose to rain in Phoenix (I wish). It rained all day, spoiling my plans to work on the backyard and install sprinklers. However, it left me all day to work on my motorcycle that my parents gave for my B-day 2 yrs ago (Yes, it took 2 yrs. to get it from Salt Lake to Phx because I don't have a truck). Same bud from Friday night came over and we took apart the engine; unfortunately, it needed rebuilt. A trip to the local motorsports store resulted in me being about $300 lighter in the wallet. Oh well, as long as I can get the bike running, it will be worth it.

After the store, we decided to go to a local cowboy bar; I don't particularly like country music, so I'm always a little out of place there, but there aren't any other bars in the vicinity. We had a lot of drinks, played shuffleboard & then listened to the live bar; they weren't too bad. They had a CD w/ a remake of Toby Keith's "I Love this Bar", except it was "I Love NASCAR"... cool song. The DJ said he'd make me a copy, but after what I say next, I doubt if they'll let us back in.

So my friend likes to take shots... After about 4 pitchers of beer and 3 shots, he decides its time for another one (bad move). Within like 15 seconds, the shot & everything else in his stomach is all over the bar stools, floor, etc. I gave him a few minutes to compose himself & then we bolted. I feel bad, but what are you going to do? They probably would've kicked us out anyway.

Sunday was like the worst day of NFL I've ever seen. We have a football pool in my neighborhood and I was pretty confident that I was going to win for a 2nd week in a row... boy was I wrong. If the team was suppose to win, it lost. If the team was suppose to lose, it won. To put it mildly - one guy just picked his teams based on a "left, right, left, right" sequence, not caring who the teams were. I'm sure you know what happens next - HE WINS this week. Hoping for a better picks this weekend.

Btw - I didn't make the camping trip afterall, but I hope to soon. As soon as it stops F****** raining...

Kind of an interesting site... Good for a look if you're bored.

NBA Live 2005 Review

I recently tested out NBA Live 2005 on Playstation 2 and was only somewhat pleased.

While the game play was about average, the graphics and the dunking were not. I've been using P2 for a couple years now, and performing some of the more difficult dunks is a challenge. Probably the best part of the game was the back-down spin moves and the different alley-oops that the players can do. Other than that, it's pretty generic and again, the graphics kind of suck.

One of the features I was looking forward to testing out, the All-Star events, was a pretty big letdown. I tried out the dunk contest 3 times and wasn't able to even catch the ball ONCE. Why make us, as the user, go through a training video just to learn how to perform the most basic of dunks or to even catch the damn ball? Huge letdown here...

For my money, ESPN NBA 2K5 is the better game - the graphics are better and the game play is above average.

Steroids in Baseball, including Bonds, Giambi & Sheffield

I think just about everyone knew that these guys were taking something, whether it was steroids or not. The size of their heads alone was enough to give it away and for them to deny it all this time is ridiculous. Out of the 3 major baseball players here, Sheffield looks the least involved with the controversy. His body and production wasn't from the "the cream", etc. as much as it was from his abilities. The injuries he, Giambi, & McGwire have/had for that matter, are probably a direct result of what they were taking...you take stuff that's bad for your body, eventually it catches up to you.

Major League Baseball is at fault here, for not setting good enough rules & anti-doping policies for their players. The rules put into effect in 2003 are joke, as most people have commented. There's really no penalty or loss of income for those players caught cheating.

The league needs to follow the same testing policies as the NBA, NFL & Olympic organizations - they also need to test for marijuana, which they don't seem to be (aside from the Olympics).

What a great example for the youth of our nation - all their idols & heroes are dopeheads.

Note to the NHL

Shut it down for good, no one cares.

Plans for this weekend

I'm getting ready to go on a trip this weekend to one of the Colorado River Adventures campgrounds in Lake Havasu, AZ. I haven't been there yet, but I hear they have a pretty good setup w/ some good amenities. I have a 28' foot motorhome that's on it's last leg, hopefully we can make it there & back w/out any problems.

New to this whole blog thing

I've been a bit pessimistic towards the whole "blogging" community, but I am giving it a shot to see how it works and what kind of response/views that it gets. If you see this post and you notice that I'm doing something out of the ordinary for a blog, let me know and I'll see if your ideas/comments can be worked in.
