Installed SOD, then flooded backyard

It would seem logical that your sprinkler timer would work just the way you program it, but I can now say that's not the case.

I installed SOD in my backyard on Tuesday and proceeded to setup watering times per the recommendations from the SOD company - water 40 minutes, 4 times per day. I didn't even set it as high as 40 minutes, but it must have watered the grass about 80 times yesterday and today because it's been a swamp every night when I get home from work.

My thoughts are that the timer isn't hooked up right or the sprinkler valve isn't releasing/closing properly, so the sprinklers stay on for a longer time than they're suppose to.

Meanwhile, I look like an idiot in my work clothes out there trying to persuade all of the extra water to flow towards the front yard. I haven't fallen down in the mud yet, but I might as well have; my work clothes are dirty as hell.

I'm turning off the timer for tomorrow, so we'll see what happens...

Off to Vegas

Tomorrow I will be heading off to Las Vegas for my cousin's wedding. I am really looking forward to getting out of the house and away from life in Phoenix for a few days. It's going to be a short trip, but it should still be fun and relaxing. I'm looking forward to the craps & blackjack tables mostly ;)

In other news, I am finally making progress on my backyard... I now have the plants, trees and watering system in place. Our sod should be coming early next week, so I am looking forward to a summer of cooler temperatures in our backyard. We've had nothing but dirt for over 2 years, so to make it this far within the last month or so is pretty exciting. It's taken 2 years of tax returns to be able to afford it, but it will be worth it when it's all done.

I wrote an analysis of the Suns/Mavs series on my Suns blog, you can read it here.

I'm also starting to experiment with different affiliate programs to see if anyone's interested in buying stuff. So far no good. I'll keep trying though...

Rigors of life suck

I have been going through a pretty tough time in my life right now w/ my personal life, and to a degree my professional life.

Personally, it just seems like one thing after another doesn't go the way that I'd hoped and everything keeps snowballing... hopefully it melts before it hits me in the face.

Professionally, I continue to be needed to grow and help move our company on new technologies and our primary service offerings. When people told me that school really starts when you get a job, not when you go to college, they certainly were right. You will learn a lot more at work than you will by reading a book or taking a test. Work is real-life, if you fail a class or test in school, it's not the end of the world.

These are just my rants - I know there are people all over the world going through harder times than I am, and I'm not trying to steal their shadow, but compared to how life was treating me, it's definitely on the downswing right now.
